World Intellectual Property Day, observed annually on April 26th, celebrates the vital role that intellectual property (IP) plays in driving innovation, fostering creativity and building a better future for society.

In honor of this important occasion, Tech Launch Arizona (TLA) hosted a recognition event at its headquarters in The Refinery at the UA Tech Park at The Bridges on April 23rd. As the University of Arizona's dedicated office for commercializing research-based innovations, TLA took this opportunity to celebrate the university's inventors who secured patents during the past year. At the event, inventors who received patents between July 1, 2023, and June 30, 2024, were presented with personalized challenge coins commemorating their achievements with their names alongside their patent titles and numbers.

In calendar year 2024, the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) issued 96 patents bearing the names of U of A inventors, highlighting the university's continued commitment to transforming groundbreaking research into real-world impact. That achievement has brought the U of A up to a ranking of No. 31 worldwide and No. 23 nationally among the top 100 universities issued U.S. patents
